Natural Granite is durable, easy to clean, highly resistant to etching and when properly sealed, stain resistant as well. For daily maintenance, use a damp cloth and a mild detergent. Thoroughly rinse the surface with water and dry with a soft cloth or paper towel. You can also use products specifically designed for cleaning natural stone surfaces.
Natural Granite is highly scratch resistant and durable, yet no surface is indestructible. You can cut on it, but it isn’t recommended since this will dull your knives and possibly leave a metal residue behind that can be difficult to remove. To preserve surface aesthetics from alterations, protect the surface with a cutting board when using knives or sharp objects. Also avoid abrasive pads and cleaners with pumice or powders to insure against accidental scratching
Natural Granite is very resistant to chemicals. Acids and bases will not harm the material. Be careful of repeated use, though, as some chemicals will break down the sealer over time, causing the need for re-sealing before the recommended time. Depending on the density and porosity of the stone, the necessity for sealing can range from being not required at all, to being required at initial installation and reapplied at specific intervals. It simply depends on the stone’s porosity. Your fabricator should be able to help guide you on choosing the appropriate sealer for your stone.
Natural Granite is one of the most heat-resistant countertops on the market. If you take a hot pan out of the oven, you can place it directly on your countertop surface without any harm. However, the surfaces are not heat proof. As a precaution, we still recommend the use of trivets or other heat-resistant pads and to avoid direct contact with heat sources. Since the material is so dense, there is a possibility heating one area of the top and not the entire thing, could cause the countertop to crack.
Look for signs that your Natural Granite countertops may need to be resealed, before it’s too late. Water rings left by condensation from a glass or darkening of the stone when liquids or cleaners are used on the countertop, are some of the most common signs that the stone needs to be resealed.
